10.1. General information

Coupling is intended for a rupture of power communication between the engine and RKPP when switching transfer and provides thanks to frictional communication smooth torque transmission on a running gear at a start of motion.

Coupling consists of a press disk, the conducted disk, and the hydraulic drive with the main and executive cylinder.

Coupling components

Conducted and press disks, and also the executive cylinder of coupling

Press the disk bolts fastens to the flywheel connected with a bent shaft of the engine. Between a press disk and a flywheel there is a conducted disk which nestles on a flywheel the press bearing of the executive cylinder. The conducted disk is connected with main shaft RKPP through shlitsevy connection.

By pressing a pedal of coupling brake fluid from the general tank via the main cylinder of coupling under pressure is transferred to the executive cylinder. Press the bearing of the executive cylinder influences on press a disk. At the same time the conducted disk is taken away from a flywheel and power communication between the engine and RKPP is interrupted. In not pressed state the press spring presses the bearing to a dish-shaped spring of a press disk. It reduces wear of the press bearing of coupling since it at inclusion does not disperse to engine speed.

At each inclusion and switching off of coupling power influence is resulted by wear of frictional overlays of the conducted disk. The conducted disk represents the wearing-out detail, however average term of its service quite big and depends generally on loading (operation with the trailer) and style of driving.

Power shafts

Power shafts

The Saab 9-5 cars have the forward drive. The torque on wheels is transmitted from transmission through the differential which is built in it by means of power shafts. Power shafts have identical length, however between the right shaft and differential the intermediate shaft leaning on the bearing installed on the power unit is established. The variable tilt angle of power shafts is carried out by means of internal and external hinges of equal angular speeds (CV JOINTS) placed in protective covers. The internal hinge of the left shaft is fixed in a box with the help of a lock ring. The internal hinge of the right shaft is installed in specially intended nest of an intermediate shaft. External hinges of both shaft enter naves of forward wheels and are fixed by stupichny nuts.
