2.5.4. Use of the automatic transmission (AT)
tc "22 use of the automatic transmission (AT)"On the considered cars 5-staged AT controlled by an electronic control unit is established. The lever of the selector of the AT modes is located in the lower part of the central console.
Lever of the selector of the AT modes and switches of the SPORT and WINTER programs

All transfers of advance switches automatically if the lever of the selector of the AT modes is in situation "D".
For movement of the lever of the selector from situation "P" ignition has to be included, the brake pedal is squeezed out, and also the fixing removal button is pressed (under the handle).
Movements of the lever of the selector for which implementation it is required to press the fixing removal button are specified illustrations.

AT programs
Three programs of work of AT are provided: normal, sports and winter.
The normal program is chosen automatically at start of the engine and provides the maximum economy of fuel.
The sports program is intended for obtaining the maximum power from the engine and, therefore, at this program there is later switching to the raising transfers and earlier – on lowering. Inclusion and switching off of the sports program is made by pressing the S button located on the handle of the lever of the selector of the AT modes. At the activated sports program burns corresponding To/L in a combination of devices (see the Section Combination of Devices). Switching off of the sports mode happens at the choice of the P or R mode, at switching off of the engine, at the choice of the winter program, and also at inclusion To/L malfunction of AT.
The winter program is intended for driving on a slippery covering. At the same time the movement begins with the 3rd transfer. Inclusion and switching off of the winter program is made by the W button located to the right of the lever of the selector of the AT modes. At the activated winter program burns corresponding To/L in a combination of devices (see the Section Combination of Devices). Switching off of the sports mode happens at the choice of the L mode, at switching off of the engine, at ATF overheat, and also at inclusion To/L malfunction of AT.
AT functions
The following is among the AT functions:
Blocking of movement of the lever of the selector from situation "P" – for removal of this blocking has to be pressed a brake pedal. The sequence of the actions necessary for emergency removal of this blocking see below.
Shutdown of the hydrotransformer on transfers with 3 on 5 – at the expense of it decreases the speed of the engine and, therefore, and fuel consumption.

At activation of this function there is a feeling of additional gear shifting. |
"Kick-down" – Decrease in transfer at completely squeezed out accelerator pedal. This function is used for ensuring the maximum acceleration, for example, when overtaking. After that there is a switching to an overgear if only the accelerator pedal is not released until achievement of the maximum speed.

Switching to the lowering transfers on the slippery road is not recommended. |
"P" (Parking)
In this provision of AT it is blocked, and forward wheels cannot rotate. Before transferring the selector lever to this situation, completely stop the car.

Moving of the lever of the selector to situation "P" at the moving car will cause blocking of forward wheels and loss of controllability of the car, and also will lead to damage of transmission. Do not use situation "P" instead of the parking brake – they have to be shared. |
"R" (Movement by a backing)
This position of the lever of the AT selector is used for the movement back.
In order to avoid damage of transmission before inclusion of transfer of a backing make sure that the car is completely stopped. After inclusion of the R mode wait that transfer was included into gearing (it is felt on draft of the engine). |
"N" (Neutral situation)
Wheels and transmission are not blocked, the car can be moved freely.
"D" (Movement)
Normal position of the lever of the selector at the movement of the car. AT switches between all five transfers of advance, proceeding from an optimum ratio of power and economy of fuel.
"4"//"3"
AT switches only between transfers with 1 on 4//with 1 on 3. It is used for obtaining bigger power at the movement on rise, and also for braking by the engine at the movement on descent. The choice of this situation also helps to reduce wheel slip on the slippery road. The top limit of speed of the movement at the chosen mode "4"//"3" makes 150//110 km/h.
Do not exceed the most admissible speed of the movement since it leads to an overheat and breakage of AT. The lever of the selector should not be transferred to situation "4"//"3" at speeds over respectively 150//110 km/h. |
"L" (The lowering transfer)
Install the selector lever in this situation at big loading, and also at the movement on the steep slope. Only 1 and 2 transfers work in this mode. At inclusion of the L mode after the "D" decrease in transfers occurs at the following speeds:

Emergency removal of blocking of the lever of the selector in situation "P"
For safety of the driver and passengers of AT it is equipped with system of the blocking preventing movement of the lever of the selector from situation "P" if the brake pedal is not squeezed out.
